Title: Over the Phone
Series: Trust in You
Rating: PG
Series Summary: At Stanford, Sam meets and falls for Dawn instead of Jess. I played with Dawn's age and made her a couple years older so that she and Sam would be the same age but other than that, I haven't changed anything.
Summary (This Part): Sam gets to catch up with his brother while finding out just how well Dawn and Dean would get along.
Timeline: Post-Chosen for Buffy, pre-series for Supernatural
Disclaimer: I don't own anything associated with Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural. They belong to Joss Whedon and Eric Kripke.

Sam groaned as he heard his cell phone start ringing. That test had been a pain in the ass and now all he wanted to do was continue to lie on his bed with his eyes closed.

Maybe if he just ignored it, the person on the other end would hang up and he wouldn’t have to worry about it.

The phone continued to ring and Sam sighed, reaching out and grabbing it, not bothering to open his eyes as he answered.

“Dawn, you better not be calling again about that party tonight or I swear I’m hanging up right now and locking my door.”

There was a moment of silence and then, “Dawn, huh? Got a girlfriend, Sammy?”

Sam’s eyes shot open and he sat up quickly, almost not believing his ears. “Dean?”

On the other end, Dean snorted. “You got any other people who call you Sammy?”

He smiled and, despite the fact that Dean couldn’t see him, shook his head. “Nah, only you choose to annoy me like that.” His smile grew when he heard Dean laugh.

“Still didn’t answer the question. You got a girlfriend already?”

Sam shifted. “What, you mean Dawn? No. We’re just…” He paused. “We’re just friends.”

“Right. You sound real sure of that.”

Even as he rolled his eyes, Sam couldn’t stop the grin. He hadn’t spoken to Dean since the night he’d gone to the bus station and he’d had to stop himself from calling Dean just because dozens of times.

He hadn’t been sure Dean would answer and listening to the way Dean was giving him hell made him feel a bit stupid for even thinking it.

“Dude,” he said, interrupting Dean saying something about how Sam should just go for it and ask her out. “Seriously. Just friends.”

“Somehow, that just doesn’t surprise me.”

Sam opened his mouth to respond and jumped when his door flew open and Dawn came into his room. He narrowed his eyes at her. “Jesus, Dawn, knock much?” He could practically see Dean’s grin.

Dawn rolled her eyes. “Since when do I knock?”

“I could have been naked or something, you know.” Sam ignored the sounds of Dean trying not to laugh and raised an eyebrow at her.

She gasped. “Naked? In the middle of the day? Why, Sam Winchester, you wild man you.”

Sam groaned again as Dean snickered. “Shut up.”

“No, really,” Dawn continued, grinning. Sam fought not to make a face at her when it became obvious that she was just going to continue to tease him. “I mean, taking a risk like that. You could be corrupting me as we speak.” She put a hand on her chest as if in shock. “Do you think people will still like me when they find out I could have seen you naked? Or worse, what if they kick me out of the Oh So Innocent Club?”

He gave in and made a face as Dean’s snickers turned into laughter. “I hate you.”

“You love me.”

“I really, really hate you.”

“Your life would be dull and empty without me.”

“It’d be calmer without you,” he told her, smiling a bit. She grinned.

“Which translates to dull.”

“Just friends, huh, Sammy?” Dean said, interrupting the moment as he finally stopped laughing. “Think again, little brother.”

“Shut up, Dean.”

Dawn brightened. “Dean? As in your brother, Dean?” The grin on her face grew. “Hey, can I talk to him? I bet he’d love to hear all about Saturday night.”

“No!” Sam shook his head. “No way am I putting you on the phone.”

“So what happened Saturday night?” Dean asked, sounding amused.

“Nothing.”

Dawn shrugged. “Fine. I’ll just find a way to get the pictures to him.”

Sam vowed to never again let Dawn anywhere near him when he was on the phone as Dean snorted. “Pictures? Tell me they’re embarrassing.”

“Dean.” And who cared if he sounded like he was whining? Dawn was threatening to send pictures to his brother. He frowned at her. “And no, Dawn, you’re not sending the pictures to him.”

“Oh, I so am. You can’t keep your phone on you forever, you know. And when you least expect it, I’ll be getting your brother’s number off your phone and he will have pictures of you to laugh at. And possibly use as his new wallpaper.”

“I like her,” Dean said, sounding like he was grinning. That made Sam smile even as he debated on whether or not he could throw a pillow at Dawn without her managing to dodge it.

“You know Dawn, you’re not the only one with pictures.” Sam grinned as Dawn froze. “What’s your sister’s number? If we’re doing show and tell, I think it’s only fair that she see what you’ve been up to.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“Oh, I would.”

“I’ll email your pictures to the entire student body. Including the professors.”

“I’ll post yours on the Internet.”

Dawn’s mouth fell open even as Dean said, “That’s my boy.” Sam grinned.

The day was looking up.
