Title: Finish the Day
Series: We Are For the Dark
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 803
Warnings: Character death - but not the permanent kind.
Summary: Dru's decided it's time to expand the family and the stars have pointed her towards the perfect candidates.
Spoilers: This goes AU after season 3 of Buffy, meaning that Spike and Dru never broke up and Spike never came back to Sunnydale for anything in season 4. For SPN, through all episodes so far but then it's going to go AU.
Disclaimer: I don't own Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Supernatural. They belong to Joss Whedon and Eric Kripke. The title of this part and of the series is taken from Shakespeare.
Note: Written for [community profile] tamingthemuse. Prompt: Bangkok.

Spike hated small towns. In small towns, it’s harder to eat because eventually Mary Sunshine is going to notice that her neighbor hasn’t been home in a day or two. The questions start then and people start realizing that these disappearances started around the same time the new couple came into town. Sooner or later, someone puts it together and then it all becomes a disaster.

The last thing they need is a repeat of Prague.

When he thought about it, the town really wasn’t all that small. At least, not compared to the others they’d gone to. But it’s small enough and even as he searched for a good meal, he was trying to make sure he picked someone who wasn’t a part of the crowd.

He actually missed Bangkok and all its crowds. Tourists disappeared all the time, especially in foreign countries. American tourists were especially easy since they were always happy to find someone that spoke English.

But Dru had insisted that they leave Bangkok and come back to America. And not just any part of America. No, they had to be in bloody Nowhere, Colorado because Dru said that the Protector, whoever the hell that was, would be there.

He shook his head and turned to where Dru stood behind him, looking around the room with a small smile on her face. “You sure about this, Princess?”

She nodded. “He’ll be here, Spike.” Dru looked over at him. “It’s time to expand our family again.”

Spike’s eyes narrowed. “Expand the family, hm?” He turned back towards the room. He didn’t know about that.

“The Protector and the Little Prince. Such darkness already, Spike. They’ll be lovely additions to the family.”

He raised an eyebrow at that. He wasn’t sure how they were supposed to know who these two were but he figured Dru would know them when she saw them. She usually did.

As for whether or not they’d be good for this family Dru wanted to start, well time would tell with that one.

“You sure this is him, right, Sam?”

Sam nodded and glanced around the cemetery one last time. “Yeah. Jim Patterson, died 1983.”

That was all Dean needed to hear before he and Sam started to dig. Neither of them noticed the two vampires watching them from a distance.

“Son of a bitch hit me in the ribs with that table,” Dean muttered as the hole got deeper. Sam glanced up.

“Do you need to stop?”

The look Dean gave him said that that was the stupidest question Sam could have asked. “No. I’m fine, Sam. Let’s just get this done.”

Sam narrowed his eyes, studying Dean for a few seconds before nodding. They continued to work in silence, only pausing to check each other’s progress, until the wind suddenly picked up.

“Shit.”

“Keep digging,” Sam said, putting his shovel down and climbing out of the grave. “I’ll get the salt.”

Despite the fact that Dean looked like he wanted to protest, he nodded. Sam had poured less than half a circle of salt before he was tossed into the air.

“Sam!” Dean dropped his shovel and hauled himself up, running for his shotgun, cursing himself the entire time. It’d been stupid not to have one of them as lookout. He couldn’t believe he hadn’t thought of that.

He grabbed the shotgun and turned, his expression hardening when he saw the spirit moving towards his brother again. I don’t think so, he thought, lifting the gun and firing a shot with no hesitation.

“You okay, Sam?”

“Fine.” Sam grimaced as he pushed himself up.

Dean nodded. “Finish it. I’ll keep him away from you.”

Sam didn’t waste anytime protesting. Instead he jogged towards the grave, jumping in with a groan. He began digging quickly, a satisfied smile appearing on his face when he heard the shovel hit the coffin. Behind him he could hear Dean grunt and knew that he’d have to hurry. He used the shovel to break through the wood, making sure to break enough of the wood that he’d be able to cover the skeleton.

He pulled himself out of the grave, grabbing the salt and gasoline, pouring both onto the skeleton.

“Tell me you’re done, Sam.”

“Almost.” Sam took out the matches, glancing back before lighting it and dropping it into the grave.

He turned at the sound of Dean coming towards him. Neither of them said anything for a few moments as they watched the skeleton burn.

Dean turned and looked at Sam, the question clear in his eyes. Sam nodded.

“I’m fine.”

“Then let’s get back to the room and change.” He grinned. “I want to go out and celebrate,” he added.

“Do you see, Spike?” Dru put a hand on his arm and smiled. “They’re perfect.”
