For those of you who'd like to read something other than my fanfiction, I thought I'd start posting an original story of mine titled Deadly Games. So I'm posting the prologue here and if you're interested, feel free to click and read!
Music pounded at her from all sides and the sound of it resonated in her head. She needed an aspirin. She needed air. She needed to get out of this house. Away from the music, away from all these people.
Away from him.
She fought her way through the people crowded on the landing and shoved her way down the stairs, her breath coming in short, fast gasps of panic as images flew through her mind. Terror, blood, glee. She pushed back the memory of dark hair matted with blood and the sob that came with it.
Cool air assaulted her, raising goosebumps on her arms, as she stumbled through the door and onto the porch. Without stopping to think, she rushed down the steps and into the darkness. Leaves crackled under her feet as she ran, forcing her legs to stop shaking.
She froze as muted music suddenly became blaringly loud. Any sound could give her away. And yet, if she didn't go she knew that he'd find her and there was no telling what he'd do to her when he did. She heard the slam of a door and the music was once again gone. His footsteps made a hollow sound on the wooden porch as he slowly walked.
"Now, where did you go?" he asked.
Cursing the silent night, she broke into a run again.
"There you are." She could almost hear the smile in his voice. She began to push herself to run faster and her eyes darted around, adjusting to the darkness. It didn't matter if they did or not, she'd know the way through this yard if she was blindfolded. She found the landmark she was looking for and made a sharp turn, striving to reach the spot where she knew she'd be safe. The only spot that she'd be safe. A spot that she had never told anyone about.
She scrambled past trees, through the brush that grew naturally over the land and came to a halting stop. She dropped to her knees and crawled forward into the space that had once been her haven. She could only hope that it would keep her safe again.
"Come out, come out, where ever you are..." he called in a sing-song voice. She shut her eyes tightly, biting her lip as she slid further back into the shadows. "So quiet all of a sudden. Where could you be hiding?" She listened as he wandered throughout the area, before coming to a stop.
She curled into herself, praying that he wouldn't find her, praying that someone would come. His next words sent a chill up her spine.
"Ready or not, here I come."
