Well, it mentions them at least. Either way, yay! I'm finally done with my [profile] loveathons entry. I'm also using this as the fic for the song "Far Away" by Nickelback for my Logan/Veronica Song Challenge. The song was requested by both [profile] jaded_icy_rose and [profile] lb21. So here it is, folks.

This time, This place
Misused, Mistakes
Too long, Too late

Her father had long ago moved from Neptune to San Diego to enjoy a slightly more relaxed life. Emphasis on relaxed since he still took cases. It wasn’t something that surprised her though so she never said anything. But once he’d moved, there hadn’t been any reason for Veronica to continue to visit Neptune.

The only people from Neptune High that she kept in touch with were Wallace and Mac. He was in Sacramento, she was in Los Angeles and they were both doing fine. She’d have heard if something had happened.

Which was why the cream envelope in the midst of all the bills caught her attention. The return address was Neptune and as she looked at it, she couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. She was fairly certain that this wasn’t an invitation to another reunion since the last one had only been four years ago but if, by some chance, it was, she wasn’t going to go to this one either. There were only a few things that she regretted from her teenage years but she’d never had the inclination to try and fix them after not having seen the person for years.

She didn’t open it right away, merely turned it over in her hands, studying it, making note of the vaguely familiar handwriting. Shrugging, she slid her finger beneath the flap and ripped it open.

Staring at what she found, she almost wished she hadn’t as the memories swamped her.

She stared at the box in his hand, raising an eyebrow. “Trix?” she asked.

Logan smirked. “Depsite what the television may tell you, it’s not just for kids,” he said, acting as if he were letting her in on some big secret. Veronica sighed and shook her head.

“You need a lesson in breakfast cereals. For the mornings, chocolate is your best bet. Cocoa Puffs, Logan. Not only are they chocolate but they turn the milk chocolate as well.”

“Cinnamon Toast Crunch,” he countered. “Cinnamon and sugar mixed together can’t be wrong. It’s sweet.” He gestured to the box in question and she frowned and shook her head.

“Waffle Crisp.”

“French Toast Crunch.”

Veronica paused. “What is with you and the crunch?” she asked. He turned towards her.

“You’re questioning my taste in cereals when you’re the one that wants cereal that is either crispy or…puffy? I don’t think so.”

She sighed again. “Okay, fine. Is there any cereal here that we both want?”

Logan seemed to consider this as he looked around the aisle and then his eyes lit up as he reached out and grabbed a couple boxes. “You can’t go wrong with Toucan Sam.”

Veronica nodded. “All right. Fruit Loops it is,” she said, taking the boxes and dropping them in the cart. She smiled brightly. “Well, that takes care of the first thing on the list. Next…ice cream.”

They both looked at each other and grinned. Logan motioned for Veronica to go first.

“Then let’s get going. We may have compromised on this one but you’re not winning the ice cream battle, Mars.”

She snorted. “We’ll just see about that.”

“What are you doing?” Veronica whispered. Logan smirked, even as his hand slid up and under her skirt.

“If I have to tell you then I think we have a bit of a problem,” he replied. Veronica narrowed her eyes at him, glancing over his shoulder at the nearly full elevator. This didn’t seem to bother Logan in the least. Instead, he pressed a bit closer, sandwiching her between his body and the wall.

“Logan,” she warned. He grinned, completely unworried about the fact that the elevator was crowded and if they got caught doing this on the way up to Dick’s party, Veronica would be the one who wouldn’t be allowed to forget about it.

“Yes?” He leaned down and gently bit down on her earlobe. Anything that Veronica was going to say was forgotten when she felt Logan’s finger trace along the edge of her underwear. She sucked in a breath as he pushed that barrier aside and slid one finger, then two, inside her, his thumb brushing over her clit.

She wanted to say that someone could turn around and see them at any moment but the thought of that just seemed to turn her on more. She shifted, trying to get a bit closer as he curved his fingers upward. His other hand skimmed up her side until he was palming her breast and she had to bite her lip to keep from making any sound.

The elevator slowed to a stop, the doors opening to let a few more people in, pushing them closer together as a result. Veronica glanced over Logan’s shoulder and knew that the one glance backward and they’d have an eyeful of Logan’s hand up her skirt. Her breath hitched as his fingers began to move faster.

“We’re at the fortieth floor. We’ll never finish in time,” she managed to whisper. He smiled against her skin.

“The party’s on the forty-fifth floor. I can get you off in five floors,” he said, his mouth against her ear still. He circled her clit with his thumb, the tenderness a complete contrast to the way his fingers thrust in and out of her and she couldn’t stop herself from thrusting her hips towards him. He laughed lightly and the sound sent a shiver down her spine.

“Logan,” she whispered. He smirked as the hand that wasn’t inside her moved to her other breast, massaging it lightly.

“Shh…”

It was the only thing he said as he changed the angle of his fingers so that they rubbed against her g-spot. Her hands clutched at his shoulders, her fingers digging in. Suddenly he pressed down hard against her clit and she had to slap a hand over her mouth to muffle the sound of her cry as she came.

The forty-five above the doors lit up as he pulled his fingers out of her and pressed a kiss to her temple. He winked at her as he brought his fingers to his mouth and licked at them. Her eyes widened at the sight and she shifted even as she brushed down her skirt to be sure nothing was noticeable.

“Delicious,” he said. Smirking, he turned to lead her out of the elevator.

The night had been beautiful. There’d been dinner and dancing and then they’d gone home, spending the night making sure the other knew just how much they were loved.

It was perfect.

“Marry me,” Logan said softly, his voice cutting through the semi-darkness of the room. Veronica froze, her eyes shooting up to his.

“What?” Her voice came out on a gasp as he stared back at her, his eyes intense before he turned to the nightstand and pulled a small velvet box out of the drawer. He flipped it open as he turned back to face her.

“Marry me,” he repeated. Veronica stared down at the sapphire ring and then looked back up at Logan who was looking at her with eyes that were a combination of nervous and hopeful. She let out a breath.

“I can’t.”

There hadn’t been a screaming match following that. There’d been stunned, hurt silence instead and that had been more affective than any cutting words he could have come up with. So she’d gotten dressed and walked out rather than staying and trying to explain to him that she couldn’t marry him, couldn’t marry anyone because she just wasn’t sure she would be able to do it, that they’d be able to keep from ripping each other’s hearts out.

They’d graduated not long after that and with her Bachelor’s degree in hand she’d left both him and Neptune behind.

She’d heard that he’d left Neptune and moved to Santa Monica but after that she’d lost track of him. He was one of the main reasons that she hadn’t gone to the reunion. She’d wanted to avoid the tense moments with him and the awkward ones with Duncan and she didn’t care how cowardly that seemed.

It must have been a hell of a reunion.

She let the envelope and its contents fall to the table as she turned and walked away, lost in memories and wondering if things would somehow be different if she’d gone. The sheet that she had pulled out fluttered to the table, so that the words were face up.
