Well, the title's not much but hopefully, the ficlet is better. ^_^ Anyway, this one was written for [personal profile] ebonypsyche and would have been up a whole lot sooner since I had all but the last few paragraphs written over a month ago but writer's block hit. So, it's late but it's here.

Next up is [personal profile] midnighta's and Nebula's. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten you! ~_^

Anyway, the request was for some Faith and Logan and the prompt was what people go to a bar for. So here you go, [personal profile] ebonypsyche! Better late than never, I suppose!

Oh, and no, you don't need to watch Buffy or VM to understand this. There aren't really any spoilers for either. It takes place before Faith shows up in Sunnydale and in the summer after season one of VM.

Faith looked around the street, studying the people walking around and laughing as if they didn’t have a care in the world. They probably didn’t.

After all, what kind of problems beyond what shoes to wear could people have in a town like Neptune, California?

She snorted. Either way, this place was as good as any to stop for the night. She’d head out for Sunnydale tomorrow.

Sighing, she headed towards a bar. She may not have been of age but that had never been a problem. She’d done this before.

Get some, get gone.

It was her motto and she wasn’t about to start changing it now. The one time that she had, it hadn’t ended well. Faith had learned that lesson and learned it well.

And it all led up to this point. Sitting in a bar, flirting with the bartender to get a drink and brushing off some blonde guy who thought, “Dude, you’re seriously hot,” was the key to a girl’s heart.

“Sorry for my friend. He lacks…” The new guy trailed off with a hand gesture and shook his head. Faith raised an eyebrow.

“Intelligence?”

He grinned. “That too.”

She turned towards him fully and studied him. Brown hair, brown eyes that seemed to be having a good laugh at his friend’s expense, and a smirk that told the world he wasn’t a pushover. She felt an answering smirk coming across her face.

“I think I might like you.” It was true and a bit surprising to her. She didn’t normally like guys she just met. But there was something about this one, something that said his life hadn’t been sunshine and roses and he knew what it was like to have the raw end of the deal. There was a fresh bitter edge to him and she knew that something had happened to bring him here.

“How thrilling. I’m so glad I could bring more enjoyment to your night.”

“You should be. It’s an honor I don’t allow to just anyone.” The playful tone in her voice was clear, putting him on notice that this had gone from casual banter to flirting. He inclined his head as if acknowledging that fact and smiled.

“In that case, I better make the best of it while I still can.”

She studied him for a moment more before nodding and holding out her hand. “I’m Faith.” It was another surprise for herself. She didn’t give out her actual name usually. It made her more difficult to find but she was tired, tired from traveling and tired of trying to hide all the time.

He gave her a little grin. “Logan.” He settled in the seat next to her and motioned to the bartender. “Another shot,” he said casually. Faith raised an eyebrow.

“Are you even old enough to be in here?”

The smirk was back when he turned towards her. “About as much as you are,” was all he’d say. Which probably meant he was right around her age but it didn’t explain how he was able to order a drink so casually without getting carded.

They didn’t speak for a few minutes and Faith took that opportunity to study him. She didn’t know what his story was but she was definitely curious.

She was also itching to get rid of this energy that was building up inside her and she straightened, looking him up and down. “Got someplace we can go?”

Logan smirked. “Not worried about a jealous girlfriend?” he asked, some unknown emotion flashing through his eyes. She raised an eyebrow.

“Should I be?”

“Not anymore.”

Which was probably the reason he was here in the first place. She shrugged. “Just as well. If she’d come after me, I’d have to kick the crap out of her and that’d be no fun. For her at least.”

He snorted and she could see a hint of a smile as he stood. “Well she can be pretty feisty.”

“I can be feistier,” Faith said simply, giving him a small push towards the door. He raised an eyebrow.

“Yeah?”

“Yeah.”

He nodded, holding an arm in front of him to indicate she should go first. “Prove it.”

She laughed, taking a hold of his shirt and pulling him behind her. “I intend to.”
