Thanks to Saturn for letting me be evil this week and for getting me the names of the Bender family. :)
The day started out the same as it did every other day. Wake up and wait for another hour or so before it’s possible to get any damn breakfast. A bunch of pointless activities until lunch and then more until dinner and after that, a little free time until lights out. But the worst part was being unable to hunt.
Lee Bender was not used to being cooped up like this. He wanted to go hunting again with Kit, even if the bastard screwed up sometimes.
He wanted to hunt down the bitch that had shot his dad.
Thoughts of that kept him happy on most days. Imagining how he’d get her alone. Maybe he’d tie her down instead of locking her up. Just to start.
He could do whatever he wanted to her. And once he was done, he’d let her try to run and when he found her, it wouldn’t be quick. He’d make it last so that by the time he was done, she’d be begging him to end it.
“You sure daydream a lot, you know that?”
Lee looked over at his cellmate. “Just thinkin’.”
“Yeah?” There was some shifting on the bed above his. “About what?”
“About the woman who landed me here. Separated me from my brother and sister, shot my daddy.”
“Sounds like a bitch.”
“Bitch cop is what she is. If I could, I’d make her suffer.”
“How?”
“I’d hunt her down.” He sighed, thinking back on what his life had been. “Just like old times.”
“Sounds like you’ve thought it all out.”
“Damn right I have. I just wish there was some way for me to be out there without anyone knowing it so I could actually do it,” he said before turning on his side and letting sleep claim him.
Above him, the young man slowly smiled as his face shifted. “Done,” he whispered. Laughing, he crossed his legs at the ankle.
Now this was going to be entertaining.
~*~*~
“Buffy! Hello? You in there?” There was more pounding. “Come on, you can’t be that lazy.”
Lee sighed. “Who the hell is Buffy?” he muttered. He stopped and blinked, looking around him.
That hadn’t been his voice and this definitely wasn’t his room. He sat up and looked around before grinning.
He was out.
“Buffy!” The door flew open and a young woman with long dark hair came in as Lee quickly tried to look sleepy. “What’s taking so long?”
“Nothing. Just...having a bit of trouble waking up.”
“Well, hurry and get dressed or you’re going to miss breakfast. And we all know how cranky you get when you don’t get breakfast.” She smiled before turning and leaving the room, shutting the door behind her.
Lee looked around, heading towards the mirror and studying the reflection there. He didn’t know what the hell had happened or what was going on and he didn’t care. He grinned again as he lifted a hand touched the blonde hair of the body he was in.
He could have a lot of fun with this.
~*~*~
“Hey Buffy! Pancakes?”
Lee studied the man with the eye patch and then nodded. “Pancakes would be great.” He dropped down into a chair and looked around the table at all the different faces before grabbing some toast.
“You okay?”
Lee turned to find the same girl from before looking at him. He nodded. “Yeah. I’m just feeling a bit off, that’s all.” He took a bite of toast, trying to figure out how to pull this off long enough that he’d be able to get away from here.
He’d meant what he’d said. He was going to hunt down that cop bitch and make her pay.
He looked around the kitchen at all the people and smiled to himself.
Of course, it wouldn’t hurt to get some practice in first.
~*~*~
The girl was Dawn, Eye Patch was Xander and the pretty redhead in the picture was Willow. He’d learned all this through conversation and a little luck. Willow was on the other side of the country with someone named Giles, recruiting new Slayers – whatever that meant. He’d seen another picture of a brunette named Faith and decided he wouldn’t mind rolling around with her.
Hell, maybe he could give it a shot some other time. Just because he was in some woman’s body didn’t mean he couldn’t have some fun while he was at it.
He looked into the other room where Dawn and Xander were talking to a group of girls before going back up to what was now his room. He’d gone exploring earlier and found weapons scattered throughout it, in the trunk, the closet, under the bed.
Lee didn’t know who the hell this Buffy girl was but he kind of liked her.
The crossbow and a sword he’d found under the bed were his favorites. He smiled as he picked both of them up and took them down the stairs, checking to see if he was being watched before going out to the garage. Picking a car was easy since all he had to do was sit and press a button on the set of keys he’d grabbed until one of them unlocked.
Storing them is the easy part. The hard part is trying to decide who he wants to hunt.
Even then, it only takes him a few minutes to decide and then he’s going inside and giving a bright smile as he says, “I think I’m going to go for a drive. Want to keep me company?”
It’s even harder to keep the smirk off his face when the reply is, “Sure, just as long as you don’t kill me.”
~*~*~
“So, come on, what’s up?”
Lee shrugged. “I don’t know what you mean.”
Dawn shook her head. “Hello? You remember how I’m a big pest and will bug you until you tell me what’s up with you today, right? You’ve been acting weird all day.”
He scanned the area and has to fight back a cheer when he realized that they’ve been driving for awhile now, far enough that she won’t be able to run, and he’s pretty damn happy that these woods even exist.
“You act like I’ve never had a bad day before.”
“Oh, I know you’ve had bad days. I’ve seen you on a bad day and it isn’t pretty.” She sighed. “I just...you do remember that you can actually talk to me right? I’m not a kid anymore.”
He nodded again, pulling to the side of the road and driving into the woods a bit before coming to a stop. “Walk with me.”
She hesitated for a moment before nodding. “Okay, but now I know something’s up with you. You hate walking in the woods.”
They haven’t been walking for long before Lee gives into the strong urge to grab Dawn by the back of the neck and shove her into a tree hard. He feels a surge of satisfaction as he hears the crack of her skull against the tree. They’d only been allowed to get violent with their prey before a hunt once and Lee remembers that it’d been one of the best hunts he’d ever had.
Dawn’s looking up at him in shock and just a little bit of fear now. He sees a small movement and he glances over to see her trying to punch numbers on a cell phone.
“Oh no, we can’t have that.” He used slid the phone towards him and then smiled as he pressed down as hard as he could. It was a bit of a surprise how easily the phone shattered beneath him but satisfying all the same.
“Buffy what—“
“Dawn?” Lee smiled. “Run.”
The girl’s smart, Lee will give her that. She doesn’t waste time trying to plead with him the way others had. She just scrambles to her feet and takes off and Lee watches her go for a moment before going back to the car and taking out the crossbow and the sword.
The rush of going hunting again is almost enough to have him jumping but he knows that the longer he’s here, the further away his prey gets.
He’s already given them a bit of an advantage by letting her start running before he gets the weapons. He’s not giving anymore.
Going through the woods, watching for signs of where his prey has gone, making sure not to let them know that he’s too close is something that he hasn’t forgotten. It’s what he had missed all those months in prison.
But now he has a chance to hunt again and it’s everything he remembered. He grins as he hears a twig snap, followed by a whispered curse, and moves in that direction.
It’s not long until he spots Dawn, trying to make her way back in the direction of the car and he shakes his head, lifting the crossbow and firing. He laughs as Dawn falls, crying out as the impact jars the bolt in her leg, and it’s a bit of a jolt to hear how different his laugh sounds now, how bright it is.
“Buffy. Please.” There are tears in Dawn’s voice as she looks up at him, begging with her eyes.
“That’s what I like to hear.” Lee nodded in approval.
“Stop it!” She dragged herself back, kicking out when he took a step towards her. “Why are you doing this?”
Lee lifted the sword and watched the way it glinted in the sunlight. For a moment, he couldn’t answer as he stared at the sword. Then he blinked and smiled down at Dawn again. “Why?” He laughed again, enjoying the sound. “Because it’s fun.”
He saw the disbelief in her eyes change to horror when he lowered the crossbow to his side and changed his grip on the sword. She shook her head in denial and forced herself to stand, already trying to move away, dragging her injured leg behind her.
That was even better. It was no fun when they just laid there and took it.
Lee looked down at the crossbow and shrugged, reaching into the inner pocket of the jacket he’d found in Buffy’s room earlier so he could pull out another bolt. He didn’t rush as he reloaded but fought back the urge to laugh again. Looking up, he could see that Dawn hadn’t gotten far and he lifted the crossbow, aiming carefully before firing, letting out a whoop of joy when it sunk into Dawn’s flesh, causing her to fall again.
He lowered the crossbow and jogged up to where she had fallen, already pointing the sword at her.
“Buffy, no. Please, no. Don’t do this. You don’t want to do this.” Dawn stared up at him, hand pressing against her side. “Please, Buffy.”
Lee shook his head and grinned, lifting the sword and then plunging it down, the sound of metal sliding through flesh and muscle cutting Dawn’s scream short.
He let himself go, still stabbing long after Dawn had stopped fighting back. Crouching, he studied the look of shock still on her face and didn’t bother to hold back another laugh. He brushed a hand over her hair before standing up and going back to the car, using some towels he’d found in the back to wipe the sword clean before pulling out the small camera he’d taken from the house earlier and walking back to where Dawn lay. He lifted her, holding her up against him with one arm while he used the other to take the picture.
“Well, isn’t that handy?” he said as he turned the camera over to see how the picture had come out.
Whistling, he stood and began making his way back to the car. He could get used to using this digital camera. He tossed it on the seat as he got into the car and started it up.
Now he had a cop to find.
